Mo|loch «MOH lok», noun.
1. a fire god of ancient times whose worship was marked by the sacrifice of children as burnt offerings, especially first-born males, by their parents. Moloch was a Semitic deity. He is mentioned in the Bible as a Canaanite god whom the Israelites worshiped secretly.
2. Figurative. anything thought of as requiring frightful sacrifice: »

War is a Moloch.
